Top Flowers for Hanging Baskets

In no particular order, here are some of our favorite flowers for hanging baskets! For more inspiration, check out our Pinterest boards! 

  1. Geraniums

The classic! Geraniums love the heat and need full sun (six to eight hours). Don’t forget to pinch off the spent blooms!

  1. Calibrachoa

Also known as “mini petunias” or “million bells”, these flowers are easy to care for and will bloom non-stop all season long. Requiring little to no maintenance, they are a great starter plant for the beginning gardener. As a bonus, they also attract hummingbirds and butterflies!

  1. Lobelia

An award winner! These unique shaped flowers stand out among the rest – plant them by themselves, or in combination with others! Low maintenance and no-deadheading needed, what more could you want?

  1. Lantana

Once the weather is warm enough, be prepared for bursts of colorful blooms! Voted “most likely to thrive” by Proven Winners, Lantana are perfect for the beginning or low maintenance gardener. It’s also known as a triple threat, attracting birds, butterflies, AND hummingbirds

  1. Fuchsia

The fuchsia flower is a beautiful and exotic flower that stands out because of its unusual downright shape. They prefer cooler temperatures and don’t do well with too much sunshine!

  1. Impatiens

These hearty flowers bloom all season long! They don’t need to be dead-headed and create a full illusion when planted.

  1. Petunias

Petunias require regular watering and as much sunlight as possible to promote multiple blooms throughout the season. When deadheading the petunias, make sure you remove the blooms AND the seeds!

One of the most popular flowers! Available in numerous colors, this versatile flower is a must have! Easy to grow, delicate flowers attract hummingbirds to your garden with ease.

  1. Lobularia

I can smell the flowers now! Continuously blooming with masses of fragrant blooms, Lobularia are a favorite of the bees and butterflies!

  1. Bacopa

A best-seller every year, Bacopa flower all season long and are low maintenance, a true winner all around! Tolerating both part sun and shade, this beautiful flower looks great in containers or as an addition to your garden!  

  1. Coleus

Sun, shade, coleus can do it all! Ranging in color from green to pinks to purples, there’s sure to be a variety of coleus that meets your specific needs!

  1. Ivy and other vines

The classic, simple gardening staple. Nothing showy or fancy, but still beautiful in its own way! They’re easy to add to your other flowers to add contrast or make a statement!

Also known as “fan flowers”, this low-maintenance, award-winning flower is a must have! Providing showy flowers all season long, this trailing plant looks great in hanging baskets and window boxes!

So bright, so fun, so pretty! The trailing habit and tough as nails growing tendencies, this simple flower looks great in many settings!
